Dave is an an Army brat and retired from the Air Force in 2006 and is now working as an AF civilian. Debbie works in real estate for a local firm. We both enjoy the outdoors and being 'tree-huggers' as we have been called. As tree-huggers, we enjoy feeding 'our' herd of backyard deer and their friends the squirrels, birds, foxes, possums, and raccoons. Between us we have seven kids and eleven grand-kids spread out from Virginia to Texas, to Idaho to Washington.

Visit to USS Enterprise

Part of the perks in being in Government service is being able to go to some places the general public is not apt to go to.  One such occasion occurred last week when a tour was arranged for some of us in the office to go tour the USS Enterprise docked in Norfolk Virgina.

She was being overhauled after a recent deployment but there was a full contingent of sailors on board.  The 'Big E' as she is referred to, is the oldest of the US Navy's nuclear powered aircraft carriers, having been built in 1961 - and take it from me, she looks ever bit of 49 years old.  But, it was a great visit nonetheless.

All the aircraft depart the ship prior to the ship coming into Norfolk - and go to land-based units at different locations, depending on the type of aircraft it is.  There were a lot of ships docked in Norfolk of course so I got a few pictures of those too.

As I said, there was a full contingent of sailors on board - after all, it is their place of 'business' so they take the opportunity to train, train, and train some more:
