Dave is an an Army brat and retired from the Air Force in 2006 and is now working as an AF civilian. Debbie works in real estate for a local firm. We both enjoy the outdoors and being 'tree-huggers' as we have been called. As tree-huggers, we enjoy feeding 'our' herd of backyard deer and their friends the squirrels, birds, foxes, possums, and raccoons. Between us we have seven kids and eleven grand-kids spread out from Virginia to Texas, to Idaho to Washington.

Buck in Back Yard

Starting to get a little chilly out there.  Tomorrow's high is supposed to be in the 40's and there is talk of flurries so maybe old man winter has finally arrived.  I hear Houston got some snow today but haven't heard from Benj and Abbey.

Had a surprise visitor to the backyard this evening.  I got home and threw out the corn as usual and shortly thereafter Debbie said that a buck was in the back.  It was a little early in the evening for a buck to show up but sure enough there he was - a six-pointer.  I snuck out on the deck with the camera but of course spooked him so I waited .... and waited ..... and waited .... and waited.  About two hours later, after seeing does come and go during that time, I heard what turned out to be the buck.  He held off in the woods for a long time, barely showing at all but finally came out.  I was able to snap an image of him in a small opening in the woods (see and click on image) and he finally came up to where the corn was (8-10 yards away).  I was waiting for him to clear some low hanging branches before taking another image, and he did come out from behind about neck high, but then spooked and took off.  The image here has been lightened to bring out the deer image better but note the antlers - not bad for a small backyard buck.
